The Road Not TakenHe'll move onto a more advanced school (he has no friends; there's no reason to stay) and make Franz's mistake ("An AI seemed like a good idea at the time!")
She'll move back to Japan (new jobs, new locations) and study martial arts.
He'll lose his laughter (this breakup hit him hard)
He'll befriend a raven-haired delinquent (they'll be in jail before the end of high school)
She'll sit (neither awake nor asleep), dormant, like the supercomputer (it was never turned on) she resides in.
It'll stand for a year before being torn down.
(It's just an old factory)
Four Chains PrologueRun.
It was the single, frantic thought in the elf's head that blotted out all the others. It was one simple, yet important and maybe even lifesaving command that she was following. She was running, running as fast as she could. Her mind was on autopilot.
Run, jump, and duck.
The thick foliage slowed her pace considerably. She had to follow the commands that her brain produced so she wouldn't end up sprawled on the forest floor or getting slapped by low-hanging branches. She was afraid she wouldn't be able to get up if she tripped and fell.
Run, jump, duck, and pant.
Lightheaded from scrambling through the forest, the elf had to add it to her list of automatic commands—not that it hadn't been there already. Chest heaving, heart pounding, and legs burning from the actions, she tried unsuccessfully to organize her jumbled thoughts. She searched for the reason she was running and found it almost im
Not good enough...
Hate. Destroying the mind.
Self-loathing. Eating away your insides.

Aelita tuned out again, staring at Jeremy's brown sweater. She liked the blue better.
"Aelita? Are you getting this?"
She snapped back. "Yeah, sure."
"Are you sure?"
She had to fight back a sigh and nodded. Jeremy continued to talk, and soon Aelita found herself wishing that he would stop. Of course, she didn't mind talking to him or hearing him talk normally, but did they always have to talk about codes and Lyoko? Why not something else for a change?
Then she began to lean forward, thinking of a way to shut him up and get him talking about something else at the same time.
"the algorithm, Iuh, Aelita, what are you doing? Aelita?"
Jeremy tried to lean backwards, but Aelita darted forward and caught him in a kiss. She felt him go rigid as her hands slipped down to his shoulders, half out of instinct and half to make him stay, but something told her that he wouldn't be moving for a long time.
Celadon (Jerlita week 4)Green.
Jeremy swallowed his anger and smiled at Theo, who was talking with Aelita.
That was the color of envy.
He wasn't blind. Did they think he couldn't see their flirtatious looks or winks?
But it wasn't quite accurate, Jeremy thought.
Jeremy clenched his fist, shoving it into his pocket so Aelita couldn't see it. He knew she wasn't hers, but He let out a quick breath through his nose. Aelita had been getting more popular, and it wasn't too surprising for himafter all, why wouldn't she? She was funny, smart, kind, pretty beautiful.
Envy was green like her eyes, but not quite. That green was too pretty. Too good for Theo, at least.
Boys surrounded her more and more. Jeremy would meet her in the library or near the vending machine, only to find another guy or two already hanging around her. Then he convinced himself to outdo the guy in some sort of imaginary competition in his head, but he always ended up shrinking back, making an excuse to leave.
Blushing"What is that?"
"What is what, Aelita?"
"That." The pink haired girl pointed to one of the pink spots on Jeremy's cheeks. "What are those?"
"Oh." Jeremy continued typing, very aware of Aelita brushing against his shoulder. The close contact brought another rush of heat to his face.
"That!" the girl exclaimed as Jeremy became redder. "Why are you doing that? What is it?"
Still Jeremy continued to type, careful to keep his eyes on the screen. "It's called a blush, Aelita."
The girl tilted her head curiously. Now her cheek was pressed against Jeremy's. "I've seen you do that before. Sometimes when I was in Lyoko, you started acting funny and your face changed color. Also, it feels warm now."
Jeremy didn't answer.
"Why did you do it?" Aelita prodded, one arm now slung over Jeremy's shoulder. He tried not to squirm.
"Well," Jeremy began carefully, aware he was in dangerous territory, "people usually blush when they're embarrassed, but someone could also blush if they're near someone they li
Story scraps: Pumpkin Juice
"What is that?" Lizzie asked, poking the orange surface and wiping her finger on her shorts. "It looks yucky." She wrinkled her nose, pushing away the glass.
Her mother, who had been wiping down the counter, walked over. "Lizzie, Don't put your finger in there!" she scolded gently, dumping the glass and pouring a new one. Then she added, "This is pumpkin juice, dear."
"Pumpkin juice?" Lizzie asked in amazement, peering at the glass with wide eyes. "Pumpkins get their own juice?"
Her mother laughed, ruffling the five year-old's hair. "Yes, honey, they do. Why don't you try some?"
Lizzie narrowed her eyes in suspicion, glancing at her mother. "It It won't turn me into a... pumpkin, will it?"
Unable to help herself, the mother laughed again. "No, Liz, it won't turn you into a pumpkin."
Lizzie grabbed the glass and squinted at the orange with one eye.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive, honey," her mother said with amusement as she watched her daughter inspect the juice.
Then Lizzie put h
Story scraps: Insanity
Fat drops of rain thudded against the window, sliding down like tears against the glass. He worked feverishly in the near darkness, nimble and talented hands tightening bolts, screws, putting on parts, and more. A flash of lightening filled the window, illuminating his hunched figure and horribly bloodshot eyes.
"I'll show them," he muttered. "I'll show them all. I'll show them that I'm not insane " He let out a laugh that sounded more like a cough and finished tightened a screw.
Thunder boomed and a flash of lightening followed shortly thereafter.
"Bret Thompson, you'd better not be messing around with my lab equipment!"
"Leave me alone, mom!" the man known as Bret yelled back, face twisted into irritation.
"I don't like you spending all that time in the basement!" his mother yelled back. "You've been in there for days, hardly even coming up for nourishment!"
Hissing, the man continued to work.
"This will be my greatest invention yet. And I'm almost done, yes, I'm almost
Lucubrate: Jerlita week"Not again!"
Jeremy slammed his fist down on the desk for the fourth time that evening as the symbol he had come to know and hate flashed on the screen: the dreaded red exclamation mark.
The day had started so well, but had only dwindled down to gloomy: He had actually gone to breakfast this time, and had worked straight through gym. He had an enjoyable conversation with Aelita, in which he explained the concept and points of food. The materialization program had been launched, and launched, and had failed. Jeremy's hope disappeared slowly, along with the sunlight as night fell. It was 11:36pm; lights out had been hours ago. Right now, the only sound in Jeremy's room was the click-click of keys, the soft humming of the computer, and his light breathing. The computer screen illuminated his face, bits of code reflected in his glasses.
"I'll never get her materialization right," the young genius muttered bitterly under his breath. Pushing the keyboard up slightly, he buried his head in hi
Notes on Cornelius as a ShapeshifterA reminder. Cornelius was originally human. He ran afoul of a form-destroying virus which malfunctioned, mutating his body into a genetic hodgepodge of all former hosts of the virus, including himself. Although he's now apparently a monster thing, the virus left his original code intact. Each of his cells contain double DNA strands, one human and one glatni. He's able to express either set at will. But there are lots of catches.
Just keep in mind that 'unshifted', 'normal', 'actual' Cornelius is glatni, 'shapeshifted' Cornelius is human.
By definition, anything 'magical' that happens in the Network works in conjunction with the nearby dimension, which has different physics. In Cornelius' case, this foots the bill for his change in mass. When he transforms, his shifting field (an area around him pushed drastically nearer the other dimension, temporarily allowing crazy things like all your cells changing at once without killing you) yanks/pushes a whole load of extra matter into/out o

The next day
After Kise’s statement about the picture I couldn’t sleep at all. Probably because I threw my pillow at the door right after he left and I wasn’t able to get it back.
Taking my crutches I make my way over to the bathroom to fulfil my morning duties. It’s kind of fascinating how inventive I am when I’m handicapped.
I want to take a shower, but I can’t stand on my own and I don’t want to take my crutches into the shower. That’s why I place myself in the shower, so I sit with the most part of my body in it and only my injured leg is looking out.
After the complicated shower I dress into an oversized (_f/c_) pullover, which is going till down to my knees. So it’s like a dress.
Not wasting time to look for shoes, because I can only w

Fur alle Ewigkeit, Motherfucker Emerson returned to the location in zone one that he had been at the night before, standing in the corridor with his gaze focused on the door he knew Snow had been frozen to.
“Massacre Madness! Tristan Marshall Day! I have come to finish what I started three days ago and will reclaim the one you have stolen from me!” His eye began to twitch slightly as he scowled, “COME OUT HERE SO I CAN EVEN UP THE PRETTY FACE OF YOURS!”
There was complete silence, which was soon broken by the faint sounds of familiar cracking. Frost and ice crawled slowly across the walls towards Emerson from each sides of the corridor; icicles slowly jutted down from the ceiling, followed by the sounds of metal clanking.
“I do not think that is wise,” Snow said softly, stepping out from the darkness opposite to the door he was in the previous night. His cold, dead eye

I Cared More Than You Thought (Dan's Backstory)Dan followed Katharine through the dense forest, following the path they took everyday to the mines. He looked around at the scenery surrounding them which included a variety of tall trees, bushy plants, and tall grass. His nine-year-old mind was captivated with nature and creatures.
However, he was not very fond of deer or bunnies or dogs. He rather found happiness from the opposite.
Dan kneeled down as a small, green snake slithered out from a patch of rocks. Swiftly, he picked it up and held the serpent near the head so it could not turn and bite him.
"Hi there..." he said as he stood up. "I'm Daniel." he smiled.
The snake squirmed a bit, and Dan watched it.
He was very fond of the cold-blooded. Reptiles were his favorite animals. He was teased for it back at the camp, but he didn't mind. He captured lizards and snakes whenever he wanted, and he hid them from their leader.
"Daniel!" Katharine screamed and stormed over to him. "Do you want us to get another penalty!?" she snapp

Dan helped Aleks take his steps towards Luna's child, Gary. She was helping him as well, for both toddlers had just started to take their first few steps. Aleks hiccuped as he reached Gary, and Gary fluttered his wings before leaning forward in the lost of balance. Gary flailed his arms and hit Aleks, causing both of them to fall back.
Aleks was the first to start crying.
Dan stared at him and sighed. "What a drama queen..." he chuckled. Icee came to his side and smiled.
Gary stared at Aleks before staring at the ground and plucking a daisy. He held it out to the wailing toddler.
Aleks continued crying before looking at the flower. He sniffled and took it before nibbling on it, quieting down. Gary smiled and clapped his hands before fluttering his wings.
HoD Sky smiled at them. "At least they're getting along..." he said.
Luna nodded. "They're so cute together." she agreed.
Aleks continued chewing on the flower before putting his hand on Gary's face. Gary flai

Jerlita week: Nerdy- Admit itJeremy stared with his mouth hanging slightly open, astonishment and surprise written all over his face.
"I did it!" Aelita exclaimed triumphantly, grinning widely.
"But you How?" Jeremy spluttered. His look of surprise was so comical, Aelita had to laugh.
Jeremy kept staring. No, this this wasn't right. It was luck. Or, was it a fluke, maybe, in his strategy? But he had checked, and there were no flukes. No
"You you didn't!"
"Yes, I did, Jeremy. Admit it."
"But " He stared once more. All the evidence was there. She had done it.
"Admit it," Aelita repeated tauntingly, obviously enjoying it too much.
"You know," Odd said as he sauntered over with that annoying grin, "princess is right."
Jeremy sighed for the second time in less than that many minutes
"Admit it," Aelita said once again, smile not dampening.
"Okay, okay, I admit it. Aelita, you've beaten me at chess."
A Bloody, Stupid Miracle The day we’d cured the human condition was the day I put a bullet through my head and didn’t die. It was also the day I realized how scared I actually was of death, and after hours of muscle ache from holding that gauze against my open skull, after the wound closed and everything went back to normal, I had myself a good old-fashioned brainstorm. How ironic.
But when summer came, everything had fallen to shit. The air scorched my skin and parched my tongue every time I took a breath. The sun glared down on a rapidly-collapsing world, full of the undying bastard children of cruelty and misfortune. What was one to do when their cells regenerated faster than they decomposed?
My feet hit the pavement, now littered with jagged bits of glass to snap at my toes, thoroughly baked by the blazing ball of bitter disdain high overhead. Today was worse than yesterday. Though I’d often wondered the purpose of it anymore, I
